TUSCUMBIA – The Tuscumbia Police Department gained a new Officer at Monday evening’s City Council Meeting. Along with Mayor Bubba Underwood, Chief of Police, Tony Logan, Patrol Officer John Woodrum, Eli, a handsome 2 year-old bloodhound was presented with a certificate signifying his entrance into the Tuscumbia Police Canine Unit.

Eli was presented with his Oath of Office Certificate by Colbert County Probate Judge, The Honorable Daniel Rosser.

Eli’s duties will consist of helping to Police Department find missing persons in distress as well as tracking down law-breakers. His duties are different from most of Northwest Alabama’s other K-9’s in that he is trained for the specific purpose tracking, and not for drug detection or apprehending fugitives.

One of Eli’s best qualities, it should be noted, is that he is one friendly pup!
