Tuscumbia Murder Victim And Suspect Identified

TUSCUMBIA-On July 11, 2023 the Tuscumbia Police Department responded to an assault in progress at McVantage Industries located at Highway 43 and Highway 72. Upon arrival officers found a female victim located on the ground with severe head injuries. It was quickly determined by medical personnel that the victim was deceased.  There was a male standing very near to her and it was determined that he was the offender. The male was immediately taken into custody without incident. A canvas of the area located several objects with blood on them that are believed to be the weapon(s) used in the assault.

The victim was determined to be Edith Margarita Martinez age 59 of Avalon Avenue Muscle Shoals.  The offender is

identified as Victor Manuel Funez Cruz age 59 of Avalon Avenue Muscle Shoals.  The incident appears to be domestic related. Both the victim and offender work at McVantage Industries in Tuscumbia but in different areas of the plant.

Mr. Cruz has been charged with Murder 13A-6-2 of the Alabama Code and is currently being held without bond in the Colbert County Jail. There will be a hearing Friday related to his bond under “Aniah’s Law” which is meant to deny bail to violent offenders including murder.
