TUSCUMBIA-On Saturday, February 11 three firefighters were injured while fighting a blaze in Tuscumbia on Saturday morning.
Firefighters arrived at the scene of the fire around 7:00AM on Saturday. Several units were called to the apartment blaze according to Tuscumbia Fire Chief David Pate. The flames had already reached the roof when firefighters arrived at the Colonial Gardens Apartments.
Three firefighters and one resident of the apartment complex were taken to Helen Keller Hospital with burn injuries from the blaze. Chief Pate said the firefighters and the resident were taken to Helen Keller Hospital and have been released after treatment for their burns. There were no fatalities in the eight unit apartment building, although one resident did escape through a window.
Firefighting crews from Sheffield and Muscle Shoals fire departments were called to help battle the blaze as well as volunteer firefighters from Cherokee, Colbert Heights, Nitrate City and Locust Shores.
Crews were still at the scene last night and the fire is under investigation to determine how the blaze started. Tuscumbia Fire Department has called the Alabama State Fire Marshall’s Office to conduct a through investigation of the fire.
