  Troy Lee SumnerTroy Lee Sumner, 76, passed away on Thursday, February 22,2024. Troy graduated from Belgreen High School and then the University of North Alabama in 1970 with a degree in Physical Education, minoring in Biology. Recently nominated for the Alabama Sports Officials Hall of Fame, Troy was a strong supporter of high school and college athletics. Starting in 1980, and until 2018, Troy was a basketball referee and officiated AHSSA games as well as college basketball throughout Alabama and the Southeast US. Troy officiated the Alabama High School Allstar game in Tuscaloosa, the first Alabama/Mississippi Allstar game and served in supporting and consulting roles for the Final Four . In addition, he was an instructor and official for the Alabama Junior College tournaments. Troy was a faithful UNA Lions fan and enjoyed being a driver in the annual Homecoming Parade.

For the last 14 years Troy was a devoted City of Florence employee at Blackberry Trail Golf Course. He spent countless hours making a difference in the lives of everyone who entered the doors of the pro shop. Troy was a very active tennis player and will be missed dearly by the many men and women from his tennis club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynne Isom Sumner and parents, Lee and Rena Sumner.

Troy is survived by his nieces, Mallory Beth Scott and Brittany Lynn Scott; nephews Blake and Jimmy, great nephew Connor Lee Scott, cousins and a host of friends from the golf course, tennis courts and his neighborhood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Florence Lauderdale Animal Services, 3240 Roberson Road, Florence, AL 35630

A celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
