Troy Bain Welch – Obituary

Troy Bain Welch, 86, passed away on January 17, 2018, from prostate cancer. Born February 27, 1931 in Grover, NC, to Jesse and Clara Bain Welch, both deceased, he married Benita Rice, who passed away in 2009. Troy lived most of his life in Decatur, Alabama. After he retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1987, he operated an Accounting & Tax business in Decatur for several years. Troy was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Public Accountants Association. He was a member of the Church of Christ & served as an Elder to several congregations in the Decatur area. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War in California & aboard the USS Point Cruz (CVE 119) CK2 having been to Pearl Harbor, Japan and Hong Kong. Troy received his Accounting degree from the University of North Alabama in 1959. Survivors include his three daughters, Clara Welch of Decatur, GA; Tena Meade (Tabb) of Chapin, SC; Suzanne Matherne (Graham) of Brentwood, TN. Four grandchildren, Anna Fregosi (Danny), Kirby Matherne (Brittany), Kelsey Matherne and Nathan Meade. One great grandson Samuel Fregosi, cousins Brenda Pettey (Bill), Donna Brannon, Loweeda Mitchell (Ron) and several other loving cousins.

Visitation and funeral will be at Greenview Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Florence, Alabama, 3657 Old Chisholm Rd. on Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be the Elders of Beltline Church of Christ.

The family suggests donations be made to your local hospice organization or The Cuban Ladies Conference through Beltline Church of Christ, 2159 Beltline Rd SW; Decatur, AL 35603 or the American Cancer Society-Prostate. The family also extends much gratitude to Morning Pointe of Brentwood, Sitters both in Alabama and in Tennessee and Willowbrook Hospice.
