Troy A. Smith – Obituary

Dr. Troy A. Smith, 94, of Decatur, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 30th at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Dr. Smith worked as a civil engineer for over 50 years with the Department of the Army on Redstone Arsenal and was part of the Patriot Missile invention team. He was an author and World War II Navy combat veteran who served as a Quad .50 Gunner in the historic Battle of the Philippine Sea.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wade H. and Augusta M. Smith; twin brother, Roy, brothers, Albert and Wallace and sister, Mabel, all of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace M. Smith; his stepdaughters, Susan Dees Tidwell (Mike) and Rita Dees Weeks and his stepgrandchildren, Chris Dees, Michael Tidwell (Stephanie) and Nicole Tidwell Mulvaney (Kevin).

A visitation for Dr. Smith will be held Saturday, Feb. 4th at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
