Graveside Services for Mr. Travis E. Gortney, age 75 of Ashland, will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Ararat Cemetery with Pas. Mike Hanners officiating.

Mr. Gortney passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at his home. A lifelong resident of Clay County, Mr. Gortney spent the majority of his life working in the logging business. He was the owner and operator of Gortney Logging for around 55 years. Outside of work, he enjoyed being around the farm, coon hunting and being with his Tennessee Walking horses. Mr. Gortney was a huge Alabama fan and loved his family.

Mr. Gortney is survived by his children: Bonnie Wellborn (Stephen) of Cragford, Tony Gortney (Alan) of Glendale, AZ and Frank Gortney of Ashland; 5 grandchildren: Caleb Wellborn, Danielle Aviles, Krislyn Hanvey, Amber Thomas, and Grey Gortney; two great-grandchildren: Elaina Wellborn and Jaxson Hanvey; two sisters: Charline Gurley of Alpine and Brenda Long of Birmingham; one brother, Doug Gortney of Ashland, plus nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Beulah Watts Gortney; one sister, Gaynell Harvle and one infant brother, Clarence Gortney Jr.

Active pallbearers will be Shane Davidson, John M. Saxon, Ryan Denney, Johnny McVey, Lynn Brown, and Vic Gortney.

There will be no public visitation prior to the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Clay County Rescue Squad: 453 Taylor Rd, Lineville AL 36266 and the Clay County Animal Shelter: 43 Ratley Road, Ashland, AL 36251
