Tommye Jean Morris Patterson – Obituary

Tommye Jean Morris Patterson, age 86 passed away Friday morning, February 17, 2017 at the Henderson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born April 29, 1930 in the Talley Store Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late James Thomas and Barbara Exie Talley Morris. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1949, graduated Freed-Hardeman College and then Memphis State with a degree in education. She married J.W. Patterson in 1954. They made their home in Henderson. She was a member of the Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She taught “One Room Schools” at Glendale, Hickory Corner, and Sweetlips before starting to work with the Tennessee Department of Human Services where she worked for twenty-five years.

She and J.W. owned and operated a grocery at Jacks Creek and later Patterson Grocery on Main Street in Henderson. She worked as the bookkeeper.

Mrs. Patterson is survived by her husband, J.W. Patterson and a daughter, Patti Pickler and her husband Jeff all of Henderson; two grandchildren, Emilee Cox (E.J.) and Betsy Riley (Stacy) and two great grandchildren, Emerson Cox and Ellis Cox.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jimmy Morris and a sister, Wanna Mae Tarpley.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Bro. Paul Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday and 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, Henderson, TN.
