Funeral services for Mr. Tommy Holmes, age 75, are scheduled for 11 AM on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Lexington. Interment will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Pafford Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Holmes passed away early Monday in Jackson. He was born February 10, 1939 in Jackson to the late Leroy Asbury Holmes and Evelyn Threadgill Holmes. Mr. Holmes began working at Holmes Motor Company as a youth and retired as owner of the business. He was very active in his community. As a member of First United Methodist Church, he served on the Board of Stewards and as Chairman of their Administrative Board, he was a member of the Lexington Rotary Club, where he served as a Past President, was a Paul Harris Fellow, and was awarded Rotarian of the Year. He also served on the Lexington City Board of Alderman and the Board of Directors of Central State Bank and Community National Bank. Mr. Holmes enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming, but most of all he enjoyed his family and their long-time tradition of floating the Buffalo River. Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Carolyn Hearn Holmes of Lexington; three sons, Kevin (Jodi) Holmes of Norcross, GA, Chris (Susan) Holmes of Nashville, and Cary (Angie) Holmes of Lexington; one daughter, Hollianne (Keith) Carver of Knoxville; one sister, Anne Holmes (Ron) Lee of Eufaula, AL; and ten grandchildren, Lindsay, Rachel, Hayley, Hannah, Hope, Chandler, and Alex Holmes, and Carson, Jack Thomas, and Britton Carver. He was preceded in death by one brother, Hartwell Holmes. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 4-9 PM and on Thursday from 9-10:30 AM at Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Lexington or American Alzheimers Association.
