Tommy Dale Jones – Obituary

Tommy Dale Jones, 81, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Sanctuary Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was born July 2, 1935, in Itawamba County to his parents Irene Thrasher Jones and Tom Bean Jones. He was a member of Lakeland Baptist Church. Tommy worked at Day Brite Lighting in Tupelo and was a poultry farmer for 40 years. He ran an excavating business and also served as the water superintendent for the town of Mantachie for several years. Trading and riding horses, fox hunting, reading, talking with family and friends, and listening to bluegrass music were some of his favorite things. He enjoyed little children and helping people in need.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 20, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Gene O’Brian and Bro. Doug Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Jones; three children, Pam (Rickie) McMillen of Mantachie, Cindy (Rick) Parks of Gainesville, FL, and David (Melinda) Jones of Decatur, AL; three step-children, Brock Reese of Fulton, Jamie (Larry) Long of Anderson, AL, and Amy (Larry) Hayes of Fulton; 15 grandchildren, Molly Taylor, Lilly Hardin, Roseanna Johnston, Christopher Senter, Rick Parks, Jr., Matthew Jones, Lauren Long, Jon Long, Hannah Long, Sam Long, Joe Long, Kristen Reese, Ryan Reese, Ashley Campbell, and Heather Martin; six great-grandchildren, Finley, Harper, and Lucy Taylor, Lydia Carney, and Connor and Walker Campbell; one sister, Peggy Kent of Eggville; two brothers, Kerry “Donny” Jones and Terry Jones, both of Mantachie; mother-in-law, Opal Guin of Ozark; and a host of extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lydia Guin Jones; and two brothers, Jimmy Jones and Sammy Jones.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Jones, Ryan Reese, Jon Long, Sam Long, Joe Long, Jeff Buse, Mike Wilburn, and Lance Bean.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 19, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sanctuary Hospice House, P.O. Box 2177, 5159 West Main St., Tupelo, MS 38803.

The family appreciates all the staff at North Mississippi Medical Center and Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo and Lakeview Place at Countrywood Manor in Mantachie for the excellent care given to their loved one
