Tom Wimberly Photo  Tom Wimberly, 82, Hartselle, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Visitation will be Monday, May 19, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Chad Holder officiating. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Leighton.

Tom was ordained in Gospel ministry in 1968, at Leighton Baptist Church. In 1972, he transferred to Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Throughout his life, Tom was active in the ministries of several churches, sharing the Gospel among his community even during his illness and up until his death. He was a member of Muscle Shoals Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Air Force, serving for four years during the Vietnam era. Tom served as Chief of Police at the Cherokee Police Department. Afterward, he served for sixteen years with the Colbert County Sherrif’s Department, retiring as assistant chief. He worked to help start the Anderson Volunteer Fire Department and later became a member of the Leighton Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Diana Lynn Wimberly; brother, Jim Wimberly (Pam); and brother-in-law, J. Fred Johnson.

Tom is survived by his children, Regina Wimberly, Renai Herron (Steve), and Tommy Wimberly (Melissa); sisters, Shirley Johnson and Laquita Bruce (Richard); grandchildren, Russell Duncan (Ashton), Abby Walden (Chandler), Alyssa Herron, Amelia Herron, Keri Farr (Desmond), Duranna Thomas (Nic), Trevor Lee (Katie), Kassie Lee, and Abbie Lee; and great-grandchildren, Bella Wammack, Camden Duncan, Breckyn Walden, Hudson Clement Lee, and Sophie Thornton.

Staff members of the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department will serve as pallbearers.

The family offers special thanks to the staff of Hospice of the Valley.
