ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson has issued a statement about a robbery that took place on Thursday evening, September 24:

“Late this morning a 74 year old male walked into the police department and reported that he was robbed last night at his residence in the 1500 block 5th Avenue. He said this occurred between 7:00 p.m.   and 9:15 p.m. last night. The victim told officers a friend of his came to his residence and there was two women with him. He told the officers he didn’t know either of the females. He said the females wanted to borrow $25.00. The victim said he told them no because he didn’t know either of the females however he did loan the

money to his friend. The victim said about 9:00 p.m. the two females came back to his house with a black male. He said they walked into his residence uninvited. He said the male then picked up a clothes line and told the victim he wanted it for scrap metal. The victim said he told the male he couldn’t have it and the male grabbed him (the victim) around his neck and told him to tell them where the rest of the money was or he was going to hurt him bad. The victim said the two females were all over his house looking for his money. The

victim said he reached inside his pocket and pulled out his pistol and pointed it at the males face and pulled the trigger. The victim said the pistol didn’t fire. About the same time one of the females yelled “he’s got a gun” and everyone ran out of his residence. The victim said that he was missing $320.00 from the incident.

This afternoon investigators have arrested three people for Robbery 2nd degree. Arrested was Jodi Strange Ferrell, 46 she lives at 21471 Nelson Road Athens, AL. Mary Alice Beard, 41, she lives at 114 Magnolia Street in Athens AL. Vantella Lamont Malone, 37, he lives at 708 Plato Jones Street in Athens AL.  All three subjects are in the process of being booked at the police department and will be transferred to the county jail today. “
