ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement regarding a shooting that took place in Athens in the early morning of Sunday, September 17 resulting in the death of one man and the injury of a man and woman:
“This morning at 3:49a.m. the police department received a call of a shooting in the 2400 block McClung Lane. When officers arrived they found one male shot lying on the street, he was dead. Officers also located one female on the porch of a residence that had been shot in her leg. Officers also located another male on the porch that had been shot in the arm. The male and female on the porch were transported by ambulance to Athens Limestone Hospital where they were treated and later released.
The investigation into this case is continuing. At this time it appears this was a domestic incident. We’re being told an ex-boyfriend of the female came to the residence on McClung Lane and confronted her about her current boyfriend. After an argument a gun was pulled and shots were fired by the ex- boyfriend. The new boyfriend ran back in his house got his pistol and shot the ex-boyfriend. Neither the deceased nor the female lived at the residence.
Currently the investigation is continuing. No one has been arrested in this case. Our department has not been notified by the Coroner’s office that family of the deceased has been notified, currently were unable to release any information on him. I will update this release if anyone is arrested or if were notified of a notification of the deceased family.”
