Thomasine Crosby Poag, 87, passed away on Dec. 27, at home with family and friends.
Thomasine was born on July 31, 1926, in Birmingham, Ala. She grew up in The Village II in Sheffield, Ala. She graduated from Sheffield High and attended Auburn University. She became a free lance writer, publishing in numerous magazines. She completed a novel yet to be published. She was the founder the of The Shoals Writers Club and civic volunteer. She was a huge proponent for the care of animals and treasured her dogs.
She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Florence, Ala.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Oscar D. Crosby and Opal Boozer Crosby; husband, Robert C. “Sporty” Poag; infant son, Robert Crobsy Poag; brothers, Oscar Crosby Jr. and Donald Crosby; and nephew, Gary Crosby.
She is survived by her daughter, Luanna I. Poag; family friend, Rob Harry; sisters-in-law, Betty E. Crosby and Frances T. Crosby; and nieces and nephew.
Her family would like to thank Hospice of the Shoals for exemplary care, and Patrica Glenn, Rob Harry and many friends for care and attention.
Graveside services will be Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Park with Father Roy Runkle officiating.
