Thomas Wayne “Mickey” Hunter, Sr., age 90, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025 at NHC Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Sunday, March 2nd in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield. Military graveside services will follow in the Mt. Sharon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12pm until time of the service at 2pm Sunday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Hunter was born October 19, 1943, in Turnersville, to the late Thomas Ewing Hunter and the late Helen Louise Kirby Hunter. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a custom cabinet maker, and a true family man. His life revolved around his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by daughters, Frances Diane Hunter, and Janice Gail Hunter-Whiting; grandchildren, P.J. Murphey, and Mindy Hutchison; his brother, James Wilburn Hunter; and brother-in-law, Don Zukoski.
“Mickey” is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Frances “Frankie” Hunter; son, Thomas Wayne (Debbie) Hunter, Jr.; daughters, Cynthia Elaine (Randy) Bugg, and Kimberly Dawn (Craig) Maes; 6 grandchildren, Kenneth Aaron (Misty) Betts, James Zachary (Laura) Bugg, Thomas Wayne (Rhonda) Hunter III, Lacey Hunter DePew, Rianna Womack, and Nikki Murphey (Will) Darnall; 18 great grandchildren, Alexus (Ryan) Brown, Haley Betts and her partner Troy Brooks, C.J. Betts, Presley Betts, Elleigh Bugg, Emerson Bugg, Thomas Wayne Hunter IV, Bradley Hunter, Khole DePew, Brooks DePew, Tristan Murphey, Taylor Murphey, Sunshine Darnall, Willow Darnall, Penelope Darnall, Teddy Darnall, James Darnall, and Colton Hutchison; 3 great great grandchildren, Ava Brown, Zayden Smith, and Jasmine Hunter; and sisters, Helen Christine Zukoski, and Teresa Kay Baggett and her partner Mike Biggs.
