Thomas "Tom" Lee Smith  Thomas “Tom” Lee Smith went home to be with his Lord on December 31, 2020 at the age of 77. He was born in Russellville, AL on February 7, 1943 to Willie W. and Susie N. Smith, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Donnette Lovell Smith; children, Darrin Robison of Huntsville, and Dana Sanders (Bill) of Albertville; grandchildren, Ty Sanders of Auburn, Hannah Grace Sanders of Albertville, and Toddric Stallworth of Hartselle; sister, Billie Sue Poss (Jimmy) of Russellville; brother, Isaac Smith (Pat) of The Villages, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; a host of friends; and our fur babies, Charlee, Tilly and Chipper.

Tom graduated from Florence State College (now UNA) with a BS in Mathematics where he was a member of the Rifle Team. After graduation, he was employed by the US Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal as a Mathematician until his retirement in 1996. He worked for Kaman Sciences Corporation and then later for Computer Sciences Corporation/Nichols Research, and then for Computer Sciences Corporation in support of the MEADS program until his second retirement to the golf course.

He was a volunteer with Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary and with The Mended Hearts, Inc.

Tom especially loved working with the Junior Golfers at Valley Hill Country Club where he shared his love of the game. The first gift he bought the grandchildren was a set of golf clubs! His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren follow in his footsteps, and he was especially proud of Hannah Grace as he watched her sign a golf scholarship to Wallace State!

He loved his church family and especially Burr Ingram’s Life Group where he not only studied God’s word, but where he made lifelong friends. He served as an usher for many years as well as with the Tape Ministry where he copied and mailed out copies of Dr. Jimmy Jackson’s sermons.

Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he was a Godly husband, father, and grandfather who was loved beyond measure.

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 5 at Whitesburg Baptist Main Campus. The funeral will follow at the church with the Rev. Darryl Craft officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

A special thank you goes to Dr. Daniel Shreeder and the staff at Clearview Cancer Institute, and to the nurses and staff at Hospice Family Care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 2nd Chance Animal Rescue or Huntsville Animal Services.
