Thomas “Tom” Gilbert, 79, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 79.

Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and later as a civilian employee. His career began with the U.S. Army Aviation Command, and he went on to serve at the Security Assistance Command (SAMD) from 1990 until his retirement in 2007.

A Master Gardener, Tom devoted countless hours to volunteering at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. His green thumb was well known, and his prize-winning dahlias earned him awards and admiration. He loved sharing the beauty of his garden with others.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jenny; his father, Ralph Gilbert; and his mother, Nellie (née Searpa).

He is survived by his loving family: stepson and daughter-in-law, Robert and Donna Mosely; grandchildren, Taylor Spurling (Zack Taylor) and Emma Mosely; and his sister, Connie.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Pastor Steve Hampton for his spiritual guidance and friendship, and to dear friends Dennis and Carol, and Pam Burrell for their care and support.

Burial will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at the Veteran Mountain Home in Johnson City, TN at 2:00 PM.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 4:00 PM at River Hills Church, 1635 Winchester Road, Huntsville, Alabama.

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
