Thomas (Tom) Allen McDougal – Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Allen McDougal, 88, of College Station, Texas, formerly of Florence, Ala., passed away on Oct. 22, 2013.

Visitation will be held 7-9 pm, Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the Greenview Memorial Chapel in Florence, Ala. The funeral service will be held there at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, with Brother Chris Underwood, of Highland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Greenview Memorial Cemetery will follow.

Tom is survived by his wife of 68 years, O.D. Gafford McDougal; son, Thomas Dennis McDougal and his wife, Dixie; daughter-in-law, Carol McDougal; granddaughter, Denise Legalley and her husband, Colby; and grandson, Jay McDougal, all of College Station, except Carol who resides in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Tom attended Fairfield High School in Birmingham, Ala. and received his degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama. He worked for Reynolds Aluminum Company in Sheffield, Ala. for 26 years and prior to that was employed by Republic Steel in Birmingham, Ala. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946.

Tom served his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Highland Baptist Church in Florence for 50 years. He was also very actively involved in the Help Center ministry in Florence for over 25 years serving on the board of directors for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Allen McDougal; mother, Reba Foster McDougal; father, Allen McDougal; and infant brothers, James and Joseph McDougal.

The family wishes to thank Watercrest Assisted Living, of Bryan, Texas, Family Home Health and Hospice, of College Station, Texas, and Ms. Lou Parker and family, of Florence, Ala., for loving care during his last years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Highland Baptist Church Building Fund in Florence, Ala.
