Thomas Tingey Craven – Obituary

Thomas Tingey Craven, age 84, of Athens passed away on 22 April at his residence. Mr. Craven was born on 26 Sep 1933 to TAM and Emma Craven in Washington, DC.

A visitation will be held on 25 April at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00. A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on 26 April at 11:00.

Mr. Craven retired from the US Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1975. While in the Army, he had numerous overseas tours to include two tours in Vietnam. After working for several years as a consulting engineer, to include being the city engineer for Athens, he took the job as the Electric Department manager for the City of Athens, followed several years later as General Manager of Athens Utilities, where he worked until he finally retired for good in 2000. He was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, Princeton, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Ann Craven; and one son, Thomas Tingey Craven, Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Ann Zimmerman of Boca Ratón, FL and Tamlyn Grace Page of Coral Gables,FL; two sons, Jon Patrick Craven of Oakdale, TN and William York Craven of Huntsville, AL; and seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Comfort Care Hospice or the Association of Graduates at West Point.
