thomasFuneral services for Thomas Tabereaux will be held today at 6 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Reverend Davey Wilkinson and Reverend Dennis Gossett officiating. Burial will be Saturday morning at Colbert Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Thomas L. Tabereaux, 65, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, at his home in Meridian, Mississippi.

Tom married Charlotte in 1973 in Russellville, Alabama. They shared 43 years of marital bliss.

Tom most recently served as director of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program with United Way of East Mississippi as well as president of the Meridian Rotary Club where he established a $25,000 endowment for the MCC scholarship fund.

Tabereaux graduated from the University of North Alabama with a degree in business management. He enjoyed a 30-year career with Junior Achievement working at the national headquarters in Colorado and also serving as the chief staff officer in four cities in the South.

He served as president of Junior Achievement in Jackson, served as association executive of the Meridian Board of Realtors, and later worked as a development associate and consultant to non-profit organizations, including the American Red Cross and the Mississippi Main Street Association.

In Jackson, Tabereaux was an active member of the Metro Chamber, Mississippi Economic Council, and the Public Education Forum. He chaired the Education Foundation Trust and Mississippi Center for Non-profits and was active in several other organizations. He was especially involved in the Rotary Club where he served as a director and chaired committees.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Mac Barnes Sunday School class.

Tom is survived by his spouse, Charlotte, of Meridian, Mississippi; his sons, Jason, of Detroit, Michigan, and Kevin (Megan), of Joplin, Missouri; his brother, Alton (Pat) Tabereaux, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; his sisters, Mildred (J.D.) Armor, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Marie Morrow, of Florence, Alabama, and Mary Jo (John) Wood, of Charlotte, Tennessee; his grandchild, Brynn Rose Tabereaux and Aubrey Marie McKnight; and his nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alton and Mary Ruth Tabereaux, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and his brother, James Tabereaux, of Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be Dakota Crosslin, Ben Smith, Paul Tabereaux, Lance Young, George Carpenter, and Chris McWilliams.

Visitation will be held today from 4-6 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home. Services are immediately following the visitation.
