Funeral service for Thomas Scott “Sam” Cowart, Jr., 79, will be Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Gracepoint Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Gracepoint Baptist Church

Mr. Cowart died on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital.  He was born Sunday, March 21, 1943, in Morgan County, to Thomas Scott Cowart, Sr. and Elsie Kirby Cowart.

Sam was a member and Deacon of Grace Point Baptist Church. He was employed by General Motors, working in production, until his retirement. He was a man of many hats and wore them with pride. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, was a long-time Chief, member and EMT of the Florette Volunteer Fire Department and was a former Police Officer at Decatur City and for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Anne Cowart and his parents and a daughter Gina Kay Cowart.

Sons – Michael T. Cowart (Youlanda), Decatur, AL
David N. Cowart (Lora), Hartselle, AL

Daughter – Candy Cowart Roden (Jon), Somerville, AL

Sister – Louise Thomas, Trinity, AL

Grandchildren –
Caitlin Cowart, Carley Sasser (Taylor),
Jake Cowart (Taylor), Jenna Rodriguez (Gerardo),
Ethan Cowart, Emily Cowart, Wyatt Roden,
Kaydee Roden and Luke Roden.

Great Grandchildren –
Leilani Cowart and Saylor Sasser

Pallbearers will be Taylor Sasser, Jake Cowart, Wyatt Roden, Ethan Cowart, Luke Roden and Gerardo Rodriguez.
