thomasIn the morning hours of Aug. 17, 2015, Thomas Harold Rhodes left this world peacefully to be with God. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hulet “Big Daddy” and Ila Rhodes, and his son, Tommy.
He is survived by the love of his life, Margaret Rhodes; brothers, William (Sheila), David (Sue), and Kenneth Rhodes; sister, Sandra Burfield (Dennis); daughters, Marilyn Mitchell (Steve) and Valerie Thigpen (Steve); grandchildren, Jeremy Williams (Jessica), Jessica Kroner (Kyle), Wendi Simmons (Jason), Brandy Thigpen, Marc Mitchell, and Alex Mitchell; and nine great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He was, above all, a Godly man with a great love for church, family, friends, gospel music, Atlanta Braves baseball, fishing, and camping. He was most known for his loving, kind nature and the joy he got from singing. He sang all the time and in many churches and quartets. He will be missed greatly, but we know that Heaven had a job for him, and there is no doubt that he went gladly. One thing is for sure, God has not seen a happier or more willing angel, and he is waiting on us all with a smile and a song.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. The service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Brother Kenny Windsor officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers.
Special thanks are given to the staff at Hilltop at Glenwood Assisted Living Facility, Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Killen United Methodist Church, Underwood Baptist Church, Amedysis Hopsice, Dr. Bartmess, Dr. Holden, Spry-Williams Funeral Home, and the many friends and acquaintances that have given condolences, gifts, and love during this time.
