Thomas Grant Campbell II – Obituary

GrantCpl.Thomas Grant Campbell II , USMC, 27, of Muscle Shoals, passed away suddenly Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013. He served our country as a U.S. Marine from 2007-2012 and was deployed to Iraq for Motor Transport, Afghanistan as an IED Dog Handler and off the coast of Libya. Grant earned the following medals and ribbons while in the USMC: Expert Rifleman, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon 2, Iraq Campaign Medal 2, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Meritorious Mast, and NATO Medal/ISAF Afghanistan. Grant graduated from Muscle Shoals High School, attended UNA and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was employed as Quality Control Manager for ICS Roofing and Construction in Sheffield, Ala.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church in Tuscumbia, Ala. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, from 9-11:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will follow immediately. The Rev. Don Forsythe will officiate and his cousin, J Michael Campbell, will give his eulogy. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Evan Cloyd McCarley and James Billy Campbell; and his uncle, Bill Campbell Jr.

He is survived by his father, Thomas Grant Campbell (Linda), of Muscle Shoals; and mother, Dawn McCarley Harrell (Sonny), of Great Falls, Montana; maternal grandmother, Dannie Rogers McCarley, Muscle Shoals, Ala.; paternal grandmother, Lorene Looney Campbell, Tuscumbia, Ala.; aunts, Suzan McCarley Lewey (Gene) and Sherry Campbell-Foster; uncles, Mike Campbell (Nickie) and Mark Campbell (Mary Beth); first cousins, Katie Beth Lewey, Callie Foster Howard (Trey), J. Michael Campbell (Sarah), and Sarah Campbell Prejeant (David).

Grant leaves behind his most faithful companion, his Belgian Malinois, Niko.

Pallbearers will be Joseph King, Brett Davis, Henderson King, Hart Gargis, Lance Cpl. Adam Juckniewitz, Cpl. Chad Reep, Sgt. Matt Carey, and Sgt. Daniel Heinz.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Cpl. Sean Kittredge II, Cpl. Mark Ray, Cpl. Thomas Brandt, Sgt. Thomas Andreano, Sgt. Sean Malone, Sgt. Sean Lindsay, and all of Grant’s Marine brothers.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the outpouring of love and support in our time of grief.
