Thomas was born in Mississippi on September 22, 1940 to the late Daniel Lee & Ethel Johnson Nelson; and passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 9, 2016. He retired with 21 years of service in the US Navy, and went on to retire from Civil Service with another 10 years. Mr. Nelson enjoyed golf and fishing and was loved by all he came into contact with.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lydia Mae Nelson and one brother, Donald Nelson.
Survivors include Wife – Jackie Creel Chappell Nelson; 6 – Children – Thomas E. (Jason Stevenson) Nelson, Laura Lee (Don) Shawver, Kenneth Robert (Kathy) Nelson, Scott Allen (Friend – Christina Escobedo) Nelson, Billy (Ginger) Chappell & Brian (Angie) Chappell; 10 – Grandchildren – Ryan, Amanda, Melissa, Christine, Amber, Hollyn, Branson, Jenson, Dalton & Dylan; and 3 – Great-Grandchildren.
