Thomas Cicero “Tom” Ellenburg, 72, of Joppa, the Hulaco community, died Friday, March 6, 2015, in Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, Florence.
Mr. Ellenburg was born April 3, 1942, in the State of Alabama, the son of John and Louie M. Bagwell Ellenburg. He was a lifetime resident of the Hulaco community and a member of Hebron Church of Christ; he also attended services at the First United Methodist Church. He was married to the former Martha Maxine Hornsby. They have shared their lives with each other for the past six years.
Thomas was inducted into service July 6, 1967, and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged and transferred to the United States Army Reserves where he served until July 5, 1973.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Ellenburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and George Reid; two stepsons, Hunter Putnam and Jay Putnam and his wife, Sharon; a stepdaughter, Jenny Putnam Montgomery and her husband, Chris; seven grandchildren, Blake Blacklidge, Jake Blacklidge, Ashley (and Blake) Williams, Monica (and Nick) Burns, Caroline Putnam, Elise Putnam and Cal Hickey; three great- grandchildren, Lawson Burns, Lindley Burns and Sumi Williams; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Penny Ellenburg; preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Michelle Ellenburg; his parents; and four siblings.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Pastor Roy Bryant, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Ellenburg Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Ray Deep, Derrick Garrison, Jody Hicks, Austin Mooney, Robert Simpson and Fletcher Woo.
