F.1.10.25 Thomas Surratt.jpg Thomas Augustus Surratt, Jr., 63, of Florence, died peacefully Friday, December 31, 2024, at North Alabama Medical Center due to complications from recently diagnosed lung cancer. He was laid to rest in a private celebration of his life at the family cemetery. Elkins Funeral Home assisted the family.

Tom was a builder by trade and a perfectionist by nature. Tom worked hard and was most satisfied professionally when he had done a job well. He was a specialist with siding and exterior work. Tom loved being outside, whether in the quiet solitude of the woods or in his kayak catching fish in the Tennessee River. He was a true lover of nature and all things outdoors. Additionally, he collected arrowheads and rocks of all kinds and found many friends pursuing those loves. He also enjoyed making bird houses and painting landscapes. He will be remembered as a loving, kind person.

Tom became deeply spiritual after nearly drowning. He recollected that he felt God the Father rescue him from death and deliver him to safety. As a Christian, his accident was a wonderful description and testimony of God’s love for each of us. He became deeply dedicated to the Lord and trusted Him as his Savior. He is now at peace.
