Thomas Anderson “Sonny” Pope, age 84 of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Sonny was born on March 8, 1936 in Crutchville, Kentucky to the late Early Anderson and Mary Melinda “Chesser” Pope. He served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman during the 1950’s. Sonny raised two families in Harvey, Illinois while working for the Illinois Central Railroad for forty-four years. Upon retirement in 2000, he moved to Winchester. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his daughters, Debra and Mary Lou; wife, Mary Alice Prince Pope; step-daughters, Linda Sue and Carolyn; brothers, Robert Milton and William Franklin “Frank”; sisters, Edna, Carol, and Joan, and grandson, Carl Weaver. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughters, Terri Steele, Deborah Pope, Denise Pope, Mary Ellen Pope, and Patricia Hill; sons, William “Billy,” Michael, and Brian; step-children, Edward “Eddie,” and Rhonda Arnold; brother, Charlie Pope; sisters, Barbara Haiser and Linda Rivioli; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3-5 pm on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 5:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel.
