Thomas Alfred Coffin, 88, of Huntsville, passed away October 17, 2023. Visitation will be Friday, October 20, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Alford McClaney officiating.
Tom was survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy H. Coffin; brother, Robert Coffin; daughter, Nedra Eddins; grandchildren, Lachlan Estep and wife, Vanessa Clayberg, and Coralie Eddins and husband, Ron Blankenbeckler; great-granddaughter, Helena Dunn; and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great-great nephews, and great-great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Gladstone Coffin; mother, Claire Maris (Barnitz) Coffin; brother, David Coffin; sisters, June Jostock and Teddy Pitcairn; son, Guy Donald Coffin; and grandson, Glenn Thomas Estep.
Tom attended Bryn Athyn High School where he earned an athletic scholarship for wrestling to the University of Pittsburgh. During his time at Pitt, he received a BS in Mathematics. He spent his career working in aerospace, most notably working on the Space Shuttle long before anyone knew what the shuttle was. He was a loving, caring husband and father. Everyone who knew him viewed him as a kind and gentle soul. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
