Thomas Albert Sharpe, age 85, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hazel Harbin Sharpe; his three daughters Janice (Steve) Renegar, Carol Wilks, and Deborah (Harold) Fanning; four grandchildren, Alison Fanning Creel, Daniel Fanning, Amy Wilks Pollard, and Kelli Renegar Grissom; seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Creel, Anna Creel, Adeline Creel, Kaitlyn Pollard, Lauren Pollard, Liam Fanning, and Ryleigh Grissom; siblings, Barbara Sharp Mitchell, Donald Sharp, Franklin Sharp, and Dewayne Sharp. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sharp and Pearl Winsett Sharp; siblings, Charles Sharp, Yvonne Sharp Sims, Christine Sharp Brown, and Kenneth Sharp; and son-in-law, Glenn Wilks. Thomas took great pride in both his family and his community. His ancestors having settled Sharp’s Cove in the early 1800s, he had strong ties to the land and many lifelong friendships among the Maysville community. A retired farmer, “Tom,” spent many hours from his fieldwork discussing the weather and crop prices with his fellow farmers at the Maysville General Store, all the while sipping on Double Cola and decidedly winning a hand of Rook or a game of checkers. He was one of the founders of the Central Volunteer Fire Department and an active member of the Oak Park Baptist Church in Huntsville. However, never was Thomas happier than when he was together with his siblings, daughters, and grandkids. His quiet demeanor was often suppressed for the sake of sharing an old story of by-gone days, leaving himself and his family in smiles and laughter. He was a great source of love, strength, and wisdom to those who knew him and he will be dearly missed. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by a 2:00 chapel service. The funeral service will be conducted by his son-in-law, Dr. Harold Fanning and the Rev. Alan Crawford. Burial will be at Valhalla Cemetery.
