If Europe listed the nude beaches it would almost be redundant, after all, most beaches in Europe are at least a little nude friendly. But here in the United States, public nudity is still something one has to go looking for, and there’s no better place to look than at one of America’s ten best nude beaches.
And here they are:
UFO Beach, South Padre Island, Texas is listed as number 10 on the list…..his beach isn’t officially clothing optional, but after taking a quick look around one could be forgiven for assuming that it is. A few miles north of the main strip and Beach Access 6, this beach, called UFO by locals because of its eccentric buoy, is the best place on the island to really work on your tan. It’s especially popular during the island’s raucous spring break festivities when it’s overrun with partying college kids.
Number 9 on the list is San Gregorio, San Mateo County, California…..San Gregorio is a tiny town with only 287 people in San Mateo County, just
south of San Francisco. What makes it interesting is its stunning coastal setting on the Pacific, and its two-mile-long town beach, which is actually the oldest nude beach in the United States. Popular with the Bay Area gay community, straight visitors to the beach tend to stay on its southern side, while gay visitors migrate to its northern sands. Both groups, however, stay to watch the sunsets.
Lighthouse Beach, Islip, New York is number 8….Part of the Fire Island National Seashore, Lighthouse Beach is the place for New Yorkers looking to escape the city’s stifling heat and their clothes. Though not entirely nude, Lighthouse Beach is Long Island’s best known topless beach. The only place where nudity isn’t allowed is at the direct center of the beach near the lighthouse – because that’s not the view that the tourists come to see.
And number s7 would be Gunnison Beach, Middletown, New Jersey….If you thought the cast of Jersey Shore was immodest, just wait until you see what’s going on at Gunnison Beach! The best nude beach on the East Coast, this beach sees well-tanned and well-toned guidos and guidettes strut their all-nude stuff just a few miles south of New York City all summer long.
Collins Beach, Sauvie Island, Oregon is number 6 on the list…..Our first non-coastal beach, Collins Beach can be found on Sauvie Island in Oregon’s Columbia River. A big hit with locals, the beach is a great place to bare it all, and 75% of visitors to the beach choose to go nude. Of course, the beach is right next to hiptastic Portland, so don’t be surprised to see some bearded hipster bodies out on the sands.
Kehena Beach, Big Island, Hawaii is number 5….If it’s privacy you’re looking for, than the black sands of Kehena Beach on the far eastern tip of Hawaii’s Big Island is a pretty good choice. The beach is well off the tourist trail, and the hike from the road down to the beach on a rugged lava-rock trail keeps the looky-loos at bay.
Number 4 on the list Baker Beach, San Francisco, California ….For a little taste of 1960s San Francisco, venture down to Baker Beach in the Presidio of San Francisco for some nude sunbathing. With its awe-inspiring views of the Golden Gate Bridge, even the most “blessed” beachgoers on Baker Beach may have a hard time attracting the other bathers’ attention. Just don’t expect to get in the water, as the Pacific is seriously cold.
Number 3 would be Black’s Beach, San Diego, California….Sandwiched between La Jolla and the Torrey Pines State Beach, Black’s Beach is incredibly secluded thanks to its cliff walls and the fact that visitors have to hike down a rugged, steep path to reach its sands. Once there, expect to find nude bathers with fit bodies, and even nude surfers!
Little Beach, Maui, Hawaii is listed as number 2 on the list….Swimming, surfing, bodysurfing, whale watching and nude sunbathing, can it get any better than this? Well, the fact that the beach is on the Hawaiian island of Maui doesn’t hurt. Though its clothing-optional status is unofficial, Little Beach has been attracting naturists for decades and has a great sheltered location on the southern side of the island. It’s a place that really just makes you want to strip off and join in on the fun.
And the number one nude beach is Haulover Beach, Miami, Florida….Haulover Beach is one of the few government-run clothing-optional beaches in the United States, and it’s a nice one! Situated just north of Bal Harbour and its luxury shops, Haulover Beach offers about as much privacy as one can expect just a few miles north of Miami Beach. But privacy isn’t all that attracts visitors to the beach – for that we have to thank its white sands, year-round warmth and amazing water.
