The Following Obituary was written by the Family of Mr. TC Umphrey:
Therman Cleo Umphrey, 95, of the Nesmith community, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. Born August 4, 1929, in Arley Alabama, to Howard and I.V. Umphrey, he lived a life dedicated to family and hard work. Mr. Umphrey was a skilled master electrician and a successful chicken farmer. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 175 in Chattanooga for nearly 74 Years. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, finding joy in fishing, cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, and following the Atlanta Braves. A gifted storyteller, he loved sharing memories with his family and cherished his connection to the Nesmith Community. One would be hard-pressed to find a man that loved and sacrificed as much for his family. He leaves behind a loving legacy: He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Larene Umphrey; brother, Carl; his children, Therman Dale and Carla. His is survived by his daughter, Gail (Robert) Brown; grandchildren, Roman (Amber) Harris, Robyn (Jesse)Howard and Nathan (Angel) Brown; great-grandchildren, Katherine and James Harris, Kanah (Walker) Chambers, Kenley, Kaley Grace, Khloe, Jesse Grant, Jonah, Kardyn, Jack and Kegan Howard, Nate and Brooks Brown; brother, Larry (Carolyn) Umphrey; sister, Freda Burgess; and many nieces, nephews, and his loving cat, Coco. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care New Beacon Hospice and to all the health care providers at Grandview Medical Center that aided Mr. Umphrey in his final days. Visitation will be Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in the Nesmith Community, where the service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Brother Steton Hayes and Brother Chris Godbee will officiate.
