THE SHOALS-The youth chapter of the Tri-County Branch of the NAACP is made up of students between the ages of 5 and 12. They are a youth led organization, and have their own officers (a president, vice president, and etc.), agenda, and objectives – in keeping with the vision and mission of the NAACP, of course. They meet at the Michael Community Center.
The children have chosen to have a Tri-county book drive in hopes to collect enough books to give each student from pre-kindergarten (around age 5) thru the fourth grade (around age 10-11) at least 5 books to take home for the summer to begin their very own home library. This is a very ambitious community project, and they will need a lot of community participation to get this done. Their success could help to empower the next generation of readers, and foster a love of learning.
If interested, please print the announcement and box flier and begin collecting books. It would also be great if you would forward this information to the businesses and churches you are affiliated with.
Together we can make a difference!
