THE SHOALS – Big news for education is coming out of the Shoals Chamber of Commerce and Shoals Scholar Dollars. The organization works to ensure that every student in Colbert and Lauderdale Counties has the opportunity to continue their education beyond high school. Scholarships begin with the class of 2014.
The following is a reprint of a letter that Scholar Dollar Executive Director, Dr. Randy Pettus sent to Community Donors:
A Community Scholarship Foundation That Will Change Our Future
“June 30, 2013
Dear Scholar Dollars Community Donors:
The Shoals Scholar Dollars Foundation will host its 1st Auction Fundraiser at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum on Friday and Saturday, August 16-17, 2013.
Shoals Scholar Dollars is in the midst of raising funds to provide two-year scholarships to Northwest Shoals Community College for all qualifying students graduating from the 17 Colbert and Lauderdale County high schools beginning in 2014.
The Auction will be the most important opportunity for the community to raise money for this extraordinary educational initiative.
In addition to requesting corporate sponsorships for The Auction, Shoals Scholar Dollars is asking businesses and community groups to donate items and services valued at $75 or more for the live auction, as well as a variety of other items and services for the silent auction.
If you are willing to make an investment in the education of our young people by donating an auction item, please contact the Shoals Scholar Dollars office at 256-246-2907 or randy@shoalsscholardollars.com.
Items with the donation forms attached, can be brought to the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, 20 Hightower Place, Florence, or to H. W. Lewis Hobbart Electric, 444 S. Walnut Street, Florence, or they can be picked up by volunteers no later than Wednesday, August 14.
As the donations come in, the names of donors will be acknowledged on the Shoals Scholar Dollars website and Facebook page.
Thank you for your leadership and your support in this important endeavor.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Randy Pettus, Executive Director Shoals Scholar Dollars
