The Ritz Theatre Presents “Opal” October 5, 6, 7, And 8

SHEFFIELD-The Ritz Theatre in Sheffield will present the play Opal on October 5, 6 and 7 with showtime of 7:30 PM and there will be a matainee performance on October 8 begining at 2:30 PM.   will be directed by Darren Butler. Play summary:
Opal tells the story of a seven year old aristocratic girl who is orphaned in a shipwreck and placed in an Oregon lumber camp in 1904. Her one desire is to find the secret way to return to her parents and her former life. To survive, she creates a world of fantasy and enchantment. The magic of her extraordinary imagination transforms the lives of those around her the shy lumberjack, the blind girl and her embittered foster mother. Finally, in the ashes of a devastating forest fire, Opal discovers hope and home. 

Pre-Performance Lecture
Meet the playwright
Prior to the Oct. 5 and 6 performances, Dr. Lesley Peterson, UNA Department of English (retired), will give a pre-show lecture with “Opal” playwright Robert Lindsey-Nassif. Peterson will hold a pre-show lecture without Lindsey-Nassif on Oct. 7 and 8.

The lecture, titled Opal Whiteley and Other Little Women: The Gifted Child Writer, will start at 6:30 p.m.Oct. 5 and 6, at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 7 and at 1:45 p.m. Oct. 8.
Peterson, an expert on child authors, has done extensive study on Opal Whiteley and her diary. She said audiences will fall for Opal’s love of nature, her spirit and her attentive and tender heart.
