FLORENCE-The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is pleased to present the latest collection of paintings by Emily Gordon beginning Sept. 15, 2023.  Emily’s startlingly modern and colorful mixed media works consist of multiple layers of acrylic paint, interlaced with paraffin, resin, gold and silver leaf.  This unique style of art evolved through years of extensive experimentation.  Her paintings consist of trademark Arabic doors as well as minimalist, abstract designs.

Having lived in the Middle East for over half of her life she admits a fascination for the sensual shapes, colors and designs of Arabic, Moorish, and Byzantine architecture, and communicates this passion through her work.

In Emily’s latest collection, “The Haunted South” she is mesmerized by the mysteries of the Tennessee River Valley.  With her signature artistic process, she entertains us.  Are there spirits in the swaying ancient oaks?  Are we hearing forlorn blues drifting down the river?

Her paintings can be found worldwide, decorating palaces, corporate board rooms, hotels, airport lounges, and a permanent installation on board a large Boeing executive jet.  She continues corporate commission projects and enjoys gallery exhibitions.  “The Haunted South” will remain on display at the Kennedy-Douglass Art Center through Oct. 25, 2023.

The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is free and open to the public Monday – Friday from 9-4 and on Sundays from 1-4. The art center is located at 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. Florence, AL and can be reached by calling (256) 760-6379.
