DECATUR-The exhibition, organized by the Life & Legacy Foundation with Wendy Rodrigue, coincides with the 10th anniversary of Rodrigue’s death. The exhibition traces 45 years of the river in Rodrigue’s paintings, exploring the unique ways Rodrigue used the river as a reference to his Cajun heritage, and ultimately as a metaphor for the journey of life. If you are interested in a docent led tour of the exhibit for your school or community group, please contact admin@carnegiearts.org.
The Opening Exhibit Reception for, “The River is the Road: Paintings by George Rodrigue,” is March 1, at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center from 6-7:30 pm. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Wendy Rodrigue as they experience the exhibit. Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available. Admission to the reception for Carnegie Members is free and includes a drink ticket to the event. The cost for Not Yet Members is $5.
The Alabama Center for the Arts is partnering with the Carnegie as host to George Rodrigue’s larger than life Blue Dog titled, Three in One. This 3D steel/aluminum/ chrome sculpture is on display in the ACA Performing Arts building lobby. The large Blue Dog provides a fun photo opportunity! Please encourage family and friends to come see the sculpture and post their pictures to social media using #bluedogatACA. He will be there through early April. This exhibition and area school trips are made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council for Art and the Singing River Trail.
