Thad E. Flanagan – Obituary

Mr. Thad E. Flanagan, 61, born Aug. 11, 1955, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. in our chapel. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Brother Keith Pugh will be officiating. Speaking on Thad’s life will be Mary Hunter, Andy Gothard, and Eric Lane.

Mr. Flanagan was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Julia Flanagan, and brother, Bill Flanagan.

He is survived by wife, Sharon Flanagan; daughter, Ashley Farley (Scott), of Northport; sons, Joshua Flanagan (Stephanie), of Florence, and Tyler Flanagan, of Northport; grandchildren, Averee and Olivia Farley and Brooke Crunk; brothers, Steve, Gene (Julia), and Laurence (Jan); sisters, Mary Hunter (Pat) and Anna Prince (George); and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Flanagan, Joe Dale Harris, K.J. Lazenby, Phil Gargis, Ray Sewell, and Andy Gothard. Honorary will be Colbert County High School classes of 1972 and 1973 University of Alabama Football A- Club.

Thad always stated his greatest accomplishments in life were his children. He loved them deeply and was very proud of each of them. He cherished every moment with his twin granddaughters which had brought so much love and joy to his family.

Thad was a member of the 1973-1976 University of Alabama football team under Coach Paul Bryant. He later had the honor of being a graduate assistant coach with Coach Bryant and excepted his first coaching position with his high School coach, C.T. Manley. He was past president of the Muscle Shoals Kiwanis and the Muscle Shoals High School Athletic Boosters. Thad received numerous awards in high school and college for his athletic abilities. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was retired from Cherokee Water Department.
