Terry Jane Mathews Shumake

Terry Jane Mathews Shumake of Decatur, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024. Terry was born on March 29, 1942, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Helen “Betty” Krohe Mathews and Harold Dale Mathews. The family moved to Decatur when Terry was in elementary school. In high school, Terry met her future husband, Jerry, while in the Decatur High School library.

Terry worked for American Greeting Cards stocking cards in local stores. She also assisted in keeping the books for Shumake Furniture. However, her most important title was mom and “G” to her sons and grandkids. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Decatur.

Terry was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Jerry, and her parents.

Terry is survived by her two sons, Chris (Kristen) and Doug (Karen); five grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Ashleigh (Brandon) Scott, John Shumake, Zoe (Daniel) Brackin, Noah (Abi) Shumake, and Jonah Shumake; sisters Darlene Harris and Elaine Pierce, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Shumake, Noah Shumake, Jonah Shumake, Brandon Scott, Daniel Brackin, and Chris Shumake.

The funeral service will be Saturday, September 21st, at 11:00 at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel, Decatur. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 at the chapel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

Shelton Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
