Terry Howell, 78, of Huntsville, AL (formerly of Cordova) passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 5:07PM at Huntsville Hospital. He had been battling stage 4 lung cancer since May.

Terry was born October 31, 1946.  He was the third child of seven children born to Walter Henry and Bertie Lanora Howell, four boys and three girls.  After graduating from Cordova in 1965, Terry attended Livingston State College on a football scholarship where he played wide receiver, safety and at times, punter.  His career was cut short in 1967 by a severe knee injury.

In 1968 Terry married the love of his life and lifelong sweetheart, Paulette Hyche, and they had one son, Matthew (Matt) Howell.

He spent 40 years in the coal industry as a supervisor until he retired in 2013. Throughout his retirement Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and visiting with his family and dearest of friends.  But there was no greater joy for him than the time that he spent with his grandchildren.

Terry loved the Lord with all his heart and he was bold in his faith.  His life was his witness and his light shined bright to everyone that he encountered.  He truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive…and his generosity knew no bounds.  He served as a deacon at Cordova First Baptist Church and after moving to Huntsville, he and Paulette made Whitesburg Baptist their church home.

Terry is preceded in death by his Father-Walter; Mother-Bertie; Sisters-Jane and Beth and Brother-Wayne.

He is survived by his wonderful Wife and rock-Paulette; Son-Matthew and Daughter-in-law Laurie; Grandchildren-Rowen and Walter and a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel.  Burial will be at Walker Memory Gardens.
