Ted Gordon Sr. – Obituary

Ted Gordon Sr., 80, passed away after a brief illness at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Ted was born March 13, 1938, in Houston, MS., to the late Carl and Louise Thompson Gordon. He married Virginia Lee Moore Gordon in Amory, June 30, 1962. Ted graduated from Okolona High School, played football for ICC, and Mississippi State University. He and Virginia lived in Tupelo the last twenty-two years but were former residents of Lexington, TN., Franklin, KY., Monette, MO., and San Jose, Costa Rica. Ted worked as plant manager for Salant and Salant, Lucky Star Industries, DC Apparel, Pegaso, and for the past several years worked at MSU as Safety Director and served on the Board of Trustees for ICC. Ted was a faithful and active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Tupelo where he participated in the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Coffee Club. Ted enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, especially his grandchildren, playing golf, duck hunting, was an avid Mississippi State Fan, supporter, and football game attendee. He was a longtime Master Mason of Constantine Lodge 64 in Lexington, TN., and a Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Jaycees, Rotary Club in West TN., and Franklin, KY., served on the Boy Scout Council in West TN., and St. Luke United Methodist Church, and also served in the Mississippi National Guard.

A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Pastor Rev. Rob Gill officiating. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be today Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel is honored to be serving their special friends.
Ted is survived by his small but close knit family; his only child, Ted T. “Tommy” Gordon Jr. and his wife, Karen of Lexington, Tennessee; two grandchildren whom he adored, Trace Gordon and Rachel Gordon; several nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia who died Nov. 08, 2017, his sister, Jeanie Mitchell and her husband Charlie Ben, his brother Senator Jack Gordon and his wife Martha, his in-laws, Raymond Leo Moore and Catherine Quaite Moore.
Pallbearers will be Steve Lindsey, Joey Morris, Jeff Graves, John Hugh Sullivan, Kenny Harrelson, Carcie Young, Peter Hudson, and Jim Henderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Friday Night Supper Club and Sunday Night Danver’s group, the Friendship Sunday School Class at St Luke, Tracy Brown, Dr. Reuben Moore, Steve Martin, Dr. David Cole, Keith Daniels, David Howell, Bert Sparks, Dr. Vance Watson, Joe Street, Tommy Brooks, Dr. Bill Herndon, and Bill Langston.
