Taylor Barton Bodkin, age 91 of Tuscumbia, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014. His family will receive friends Friday, 10 until 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 11 a.m. with Dr. Randy Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Taylor was a 1945 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and was a WWII veteran. He was the owner of Bodkin Engineering, a consultant for the World Bank and owner of Raytech Engineering Company of Sarasota Florida. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, OSHA Safety Award winning engineer and an ASHRAE award winner. He served as Deacon Emeritus of First Presbyterian Church, Tuscumbia and an elder of Siesta Key Chapel in Sarasota, Florida.
Preceding him in death are his parents; Taylor Bodkin and Annie Barton Scruggs Bodkin, son: George Lawrence Bodkin and great-grandson, Walker Scott Floyd.
He is survived by his wife Sue Lawrence Bodkin of Tuscumbia; son, Taylor Barton Bodkin Jr. (Beverly), of Cherokee, daughter; Scottie Bodkin Floyd (Niles), of Tuscumbia; grandchildren, Sue Floyd Deaton (Dennis), Tripp Floyd (Dawn), Kellie Bodkin Poss (Joey), Kerri Bodkin Bass (Michael); great-grandchildren, Taylor Grace Floyd-Deaton, Vivi Anne Poss, Avery Drew Poss, Jacob Auburn Bass and Mary Chandler Floyd.
Pallbearers are Harold Hughston, James Hughston, Troy Maxwell, Luther Bishop, Joe Poss, Johnny (Hondu) Walker, Ian Sanford and Dale Smith.
Honorary pallbearers are William Earl Roper, Frank Manush, Charlie Carmichael, Mike Keenum, Johnny McCollum and the Elders and Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscumbia.
Mr. Bodkin’s family especially thanks Dr. William Heaton, Dr. Lynn Ridgeway, Dr. Kenneth Rose, Dr. Mark Smith, Gentiva Hospice Care and the Wound Center.
