Sylvia McCay Hames, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and sister, passed away and entered the pearly gates of Heaven on February 2, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born February 20, 1938 to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew McCay, Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Hartselle, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, W. T. Hames; parents; sisters, Melba Terry, Ordean Hensley, and Merle Nelson; brothers, Everett McCay and Marlin McCay; and granddaughter, Christy Williams. Sylvia was one of 10 siblings, and she will be lovingly remembered by her remaining brothers and sister.

Sylvia leaves behind her children:  Alton Hames, Ronda Wright (Randy), Marita Smith, Belinda Johnson, and Amanda Pepper (Danny). She was also blessed with a large and growing family, including many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply.

Sylvia lived her life with an unwavering commitment to love others and serve at the hands and feet of Jesus. She was a faithful member of South Decatur Church of God until her health declined.

Her faith was the foundation of everything she did, and she touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and selfless spirit. Whether through small acts of love or larger gestures of service, Sylvia’s legacy is one of love in action. She was a constant source of strength and inspiration to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral service to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Parkway Funeral Home in Trinity, AL with Brannon Bradford and Samuel Parker officiating. A graveside service will follow at Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery.
