Sylvia Childers, 72, of Middleton, Tennessee, went to her heavenly home on August 28, 2026.
Service celebrating this wonderful lady’s life will be at 4:30 PM Tuesday September 1, 2026, at Rogers Springs Church of Christ in Middleton Tennessee. Visitation will be from 2:30 PM until time of service, and her son, Trent Childers will officiate. Ripley Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
Sylvia lived her life to the fullest and made a tremendous impact on everyone around her. Her smile and laughter were contagious. If you were ever around Sylvia, you never forgot her beautiful smile and warm heart. She was always ready to help others and consistently put others, especially her family, before herself. She loved shopping and especially loved finding a good deal. She never passed up an opportunity to use a coupon or her Belk card. If it was on sale, she was getting it. She was also a wonderful cook, and brought joy to her family through the meals and treats she prepared. Her famous peanut butter balls were always a hit at family gatherings and became a special part of the memories her family will cherish.
Sylvia was a very hard worker throughout her entire life. She dedicated her life to helping others and working hard for everything she had. She worked at J.P. Shelly & Son Hardware Store for more than 30 years, where many people came to know and love her. She always greeted others with a warm smile and compassion.
Sylvia was a faithful member of Rogers Springs Church of Christ. Her relationship with the Lord was the most important aspect of her life. From the moment you met her, you could tell that she was a faithful and loving Christian woman. She was also incredibly intelligent and graduated as Valedictorian from Ridgeland High School in 1972.
Aside from God, nothing mattered more to Sylvia than her family, and she loved them fiercely. Her family loved her just as fiercely and deeply, and she was cherished beyond words by those who were blessed to call her wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married the love of her life, Jerry Childers, in 1972. They shared 53 wonderful years together, filled with laughter and love.
Together, they shared four wonderful children, whom Sylvia cherished with her whole heart: Olivia Harris of Middleton, Amy Taylor of Middleton, Trent Childers (Kelley) of Stantonville, and a son who went to his heavenly home at birth.
Sylvia treasured her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she poured love and light into each one of them. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Camryn Cox (Chris), Carter Taylor, Hanna White, Kenlee Young, Cash Harris, and Libby Kate Harris. She also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Kasen, whom, even though her time with him was cut short, she cherished deeply.
Those who also cherish her memories include her sisters, Dianne Furtick (Reggie) and Donna Leonard, and her brother, Philip Taylor (Linda), along with extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Coolidge and Mildred Lucille Campbell Taylor.
