Sybil Claire Cadow Gassen, age 95 of Toney, Alabama, was welcomed into Heaven on January 20, 2015 in Athens, Alabama. She was born on April 3, 1919 in Paradis, Louisiana to the late William F. Cadow and Sarah Tinney Cadow. She had lived in this area since 1958. She was a good woman and did a lot for everyone. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Gassen, Sr., her daughters Freya Gassen Collier, Sybil Jo Sayers and her siblings, William Cadow, Freida Hebert, Katherine Rauche, Zoe Anders, Edward Cadow, Eulalie Van Gundy, Clifford Cadow, Thelma Collier, Jeanette Hebert, Dorothy Werhan, Luther Cadow, Ralph Cadow and Edwina Adams.
She is survived by her beloved family: children, Judy Dufrene of Toney, AL, Joe and Phyllis Gassen of Athens, AL, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many wonderful friends.
Visitation will be held at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in Ardmore, Alabama on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 6 -8 p.m. On January 24, 2015, a celebration of her life will be held at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama at 2:00 pm with a private burial immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of the Valley or the cemetery fund at Madison Cross Roads Presbyterian Church.
