DECATUR-Saturday, December 13th the Morgan County 911 Center received a call about a holdup. Officers from the Decatur Police Department responded to the call. Here is how they describe the events:
“On Saturday December 13th, 2014, at 9:54am, the Morgan County E911 Center received a holdup alarm from the Decatur Discount Market located at 1010 19th Ave SE. Officers from the Decatur Police Department responded to the scene and located a black male, later identified as Marcus James Copeny getting into his vehicle.
After Copeny had been detained Officers learned that Copeny had entered the store and demanded an undetermined amount of cash. When his demands were not met Copeny told the clerk that he was armed and threatened to shoot him. Officers on the scene contacted Detective DeLeon, the on-call Violent Crimes Detective. Detective De Leon responded to the scene and began an investigation into the incident. At the conclusion of the investigation Copeny was charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree. Also during the arrest, Copeny was found to be in possession of a quantity of synthetic cannabinoids. Sergeant Jason Hyder with the Organized Crime Unit was contacted and will conduct an investigation into the narcotics. Copeny’s bond has not been set at this time.”
