ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement regarding the arrest of a suspect on charges of rape 2nd Degree on Thursday, April 13:
“Investigator Mickey Hart arrested Jonathan Alexander Knight yesterday for rape second degree.
On April 11, 2017 the police department received a call from Hometown Grocery on South Jefferson Street. The caller told the dispatcher there was a young girl in the store that said she was being harassed by a person she didn’t know. When officers arrived they found she was 13 years old and had run away from home several days earlier. Officers also found out she had been staying at a friend’s residence at 204 Gordon Drive, Athens,Al.
Investigator Mickey Heart and DHR was notified and talked with the juvenile. She told them she had had consensual sexual intercourse with Knight while at his residence. Knight is 18 years old and by statue it’s against the law for him to have sexual intercourse with a thirteen year old.
Knight was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
