ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement on the arrest of a suspect on Sunday, June 18. The suspect has been charged with robbery 1st:
“Yesterday afternoon David Earl Freeman was arrested for robbery 1st degree.
Around 2:25 Freeman walked into the Marathon gas station at Hwy 31 and Forest Street. Freeman had a blue bandanna tied around his face. He told the store clerk to give him all the money and her car keys and said he had a gun. He had his hand under his shirt indication he had a gun.
She gave him the money but wouldn’t give him the keys to the car. After Freeman left the store the clerk called 911 and gave a description of Freeman and his direction of travel. Sgt. Daniel McNatt located Freeman a few moments later at the Athens Bible School’s baseball field. Freeman was taken into custody without incident.
Freeman was booked at the police department and later transported to the county jail. “
