45f019fb-4e6f-4d31-a474-774d851bbd3dATHENS-The monthly performances for the ‘Summer Concert Series’ this year will be held Downtown on the Square once again. With the construction coming to an end, and summer beginning it is time to liven up the Square with some great local and visiting talent.
The first performance will start the series off on April 29th with Lillian Glanton and the Elk River Boys from 6-7PM. Glanton represented Athens during the long running TV show American Idol’s last performance. Glanton received her ‘Gold Ticket’ to go to Hollywood and made it through the group finals. She definitely made her hometown very proud as you will see what a talent she truly is.
The second band to perform will be Wade Oliver and the Good O’ Boys taking the stage from 7-8PM. Oliver’s song, “Everybody Needs Somebody” is a fan favorite and has been played on numerous radio stations. The song is about life and love and how both can go wrong and right. It reached #15 on the indie country charts in the summer of 2015 and continues to be one of his most requested songs.
Marion Street will be blocked off for safety as the attendees place their lawn-chairs on the pavement to watch the show. Restaurants will be open for dinner or a great snack. You can still purchase ice-cream at Limestone Drugs or Kreme Delite. Bring your lawn-chair, a jacket or blanket and get ready to enjoy the free concert under the stars.
Rain location will be the Vietnam Veterans Building at 17915 W. Elm St, Athens, AL 35611. (Blue building on Elm Street across from Lucas Ferry Road).
