Sue B. Strickland – obituary

Sue B. Strickland, 78, of Phil Campbell, Alabama was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Prior to moving to Phil Campbell, the Strickland’s resided in Dutton, Alabama. There they owned Dutton Chevron and Sue was a dental hygienist for Dr. Walter Wright. Until limited by health, Sue was active in her church and community. She was a member of her church choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was in the Eastern Star and volunteered for many civic organizations. She was on the Jackson County Rural Health Board and was the first female mayor in the state of Alabama, appointed by Governor Guy Hunt.

Sue and Charles built their lives around serving others. Their home has always been welcoming and full of unconditional love to all who enter. If they love you, you are instant family and will always have a place. Their lives revolve around their children and grandchildren and nothing has more value than time spent with them. Sue’s favorite titles in life were Mom and Nana, especially Hockey Nana.

Sue is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles Glynn Strickland. They have a daughter and son through marriage, Dana Strickland-Creech (Ronald E. Jetton, Jr) and four grandchildren, Thomas Strickland Creech, William Fitzgerald Creech, Gabrielle Carolyn Jetton, and Gavin Rhys Jetton. She is also survived by bonus siblings through marriage, James and Shelby Strickland, Rebecca and Randell Gilmore, Diane and Sherman Lynch, and John and Vickie Strickland, as well as her biological siblings, Jerry Bradford and Jean Bradford along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Auston Bradford and Evelyn Pearl Cobb Bradford and her brothers, Vernon Bradford and Gary Bradford.

Sue requested that those who love her have a celebration of her life and share a time to reminisce on happy memories of the past and to celebrate faith in Jesus Christ knowing through faith in Him, you will one day meet again and be together for eternity. (Rev 21: 4-5).

Services will be directed by Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville, Alabama on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Family visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends visitation will be at 11 a.m. Celebration of Life service will follow at noon.

Pallbearers and honorary bearers will be Gabe Bailer, Honorary Grandson, Seth Bailer, Honorary Grandson, Brandon Edmonds, Honorary Son, David DeFoor, Cousin, Austin Fernandez, Nephew, and Greyson Moore, Nephew.

Graveside service to follow immediately at Shady Grove Cemetery in Phil Campbell. The celebration of Sue’s life will conclude with a Memorial Fellowship Dinner hosted by Gravel Hill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, the American Heart Society or the charity of your choice, in her memory.
