Subbiah “Su” Natarajan passed from this earth on August 28, 2018, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with metastatic ampullary carcinoma. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rajammal Natarajan; daughters Dr. Subbuluxmi “Suba” Natarajan; Dr. Janaki Natarajan (Arvind Ramanathan); Dr. Meera Natarajan (Shivaram Shanmugam); and six grandchildren who were his pride and joy; Nina (10), Maya (9), Shaan (7), Ram (5), Kaavi (5), and Rylan (3). Su was born on February 26, 1939 in Bodinayakanur, Tamil Nadu, India. He came to the United States at age 29, initially working as a Railway Safety Inspector in Chicago. Later, he joined the Monsanto agrochemical corporation in St Louis, Missouri. He transferred to his home of Decatur, Alabama in 1983 with his young family. He continued to serve as a mechanical and electrical engineer, retiring in 2000 with thirty years of service to Monsanto. Su had a true love for teaching, and was a brilliant mathematician. He taught Process Controllers at Calhoun Community College. However, his true passion was that of inspiring young minds. Throughout his career he continued to teach math at home – in the evenings, and on weekends. He influenced the educational paths of children from all across the state. He found great pride in their academic successes, as well as in life. His constant motivation and encouraging spirit will surely be missed by all. (Obituary authored by Su’s “honorary daughter” Dr. Heather Haley) The family will receive friends this Friday, August 31, 2018 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Roselawn Funeral Home, Decatur, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, food, gifts etc. please make a donation to your favorite educational charity and continue to inspire young minds.
